Learn Digital Photography Fundamentals Online

Course Description and Outline

At the end of this class, students will be able to take their digital photography from good to great, understand their camera controls and learn to put a little bit of themselves into every photo. Classes will be made up of lectures, demonstrations, critiques and discussions.

Students will be encouraged to share their work with the class. Each class will last 2  hours

Topics: Composition, What makes a good photo? Strong subject and rule of thirds.  Background and foreground elements
Camera Settings – Program Mode

Week 2
Topics: Exposure Triangle - Shutter Speed/Aperture/ISO, File Formats – Jpeg and raw, White Balance and Histogram
Camera Settings – Shutter Priority Mode

Week 3     
Topics: Review Exposure Triangle - Shutter Speed/Aperture/ISO,  Light Metering Modes, Depth of Field, Lens: Fast, prime and wide angle lenses, Portrait, telephoto and macro lenses
Camera Settings – Aperture Priority Mode

Week 4
Topics: Exposure Triangle - Shutter Speed/Aperture/ISO review, Expose for the Highlights, Focus Modes, Focus and Recompose
Camera Settings – Manual Mode

Week 5
Topics: Indoor and outdoor flash, fill in flash, off camera flash and diffusers

Week 6
Topics: Organizing, Storing and Backing Up PhotosPost Processing, Editing in LightRoom and SnapSeedSnapSeed - the Perfect Tool for the Reluctant Post-Processor (PDF)
