As the Augusta National Women’s Amateur gets underway today, some of the competitors will try to build on their past success in Pinehurst. This inaugural event will feature some of the top women amateur golfers in the world. Sure to be popular with golf fans, it will be played on the same golf course as the Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia next week.
Included in the field will be Stephanie Lau, who rallied to win the 2018 North & South Amateur Championship held on Pinehurst No. 2. The former Northwestern University standout went on to also win the Ping/AUS Invitational last month. Another golfer playing today with ties to Pinehurst is Isabella Fierro. The Oklahoma State University Freshman won the 2017 North & South Women’s Amateur in Pinehurst.
Anna Redding, from Concord, North Carolina, was also selected to play in Augusta today. Anna is no stranger to Pinehurst having played the championship No. 2 course many times in her career. She was the runner up to Isabella Fierro in 2017 and finished close to the top in 2015 and 2016. The Augusta National Women’s Amateur features a field of 72 golfers playing 36 holes today and tomorrow. Only the best 30 players will make the final round on Saturday. The Golf Channel and NBC will be providing final round the television coverage.
